Following are some of the awards and recognition David's work has received:

 

 

November 2007
May 2007 Osprey Juvenile Preliminary SketchDavid is invited by Bird Studies Canada to be the Guest Artist for the 2007 Baillie Birdathon.

 

Participants’ t-shirts prominently display his “Osprey Juvenile Preliminary Sketch.”

December 2006 Songbird TrioThree of David's images are chosen from close to 700 entries for inclusion in the 2007 Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) National Art Print Portfolio.

 

The images have been combined into one print, "Songbird Trio".

November 2006 Pelican Up CloseTwo of David's pieces receive special recognition in the Artist's Magazine 23rd Annual Art Competition.  His "Pelican Up Close" is awarded Honorable Mention in the Animal Art category, while "Wren on Thistle" is also selected as a finalist.

 

This is truly an accomplishment to be proud of, as the magazine received almost 1,400 entries in this category alone.

November 2006
June 2006 Three of David's pieces are accepted at the 2006 Arts for the Parks "Mini 100 Contest Show & Sale".
June 2006 David is honoured to receive a special invitation to participate in the Artists for the New Century exhibition at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont.  David was recommended by the editors of Wildlife Art magazine for this exhibition, which would feature "an important group of artists whose representational work has begun to appear in the last ten years, and who invariably produce excellent work, technically and artistically."
January 2006 Conservation issue of Wildlife Art magazine (Jan/Feb 2006) features David's work and his activities in support of the environment, including details about the first AFC Flag Expedition.
December 2005 Lemur MiniatureDavid's "Lemur Miniature" piece chosen by artist-juror Susan Bourdet as the First Place winner in the Creative Catalyst Productions online Fall Art Show.

 

The theme of this show was animals, both wild and domestic.

August 2005
November 2004 Spring Arrival - CardinalDavid's "Spring Arrival - Cardinal" is selected Best of Show at the Audubon Society of Portland's "Nature & Wildlife Art Competition & Exhibition".  The Competition was part of the Society's Wild Arts Festival, which celebrated its 25th anniversary during Thanksgiving weekend.
August 2004 Mute SwanDavid is the featured artist at the Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival (Buckhorn, ON).

 

His "Mute Swan" image is prominently displayed in the show's program, posters, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.

July 2004 Great EgretDavid's "Great Egret" is selected as a finalist in the Animal Art category of the 21st Annual Artist's Magazine Art Competition.

 

With over 13,000 entries in this year's competition, David is honoured to once again be among the top 50 in this category.

April 2004 David's work is featured in the Spring 2004 issue of American Falconry magazine.
April 2004 Rocky Mountain Eye IIDavid, with his "Rocky Mountain Eye II" image, is selected by the Alberta Ducks Unlimited Provincial Council as the 2005 Alberta Artist of the Year.
September 2003 Racoons (Young) Diptych (detail)David's "Racoons (Young) Diptych" is selected for inclusion in the 2004 Ducks Unlimited Canada National Art Print Portfolio.
July 2003 David's "In the Heat of Winter (Scrub Jay)" (see picture under the July 2002 entry) is selected as a finalist in the Animal Art category of the 20th Annual Artist's Magazine's Art Competition.  With over 13,000 entries in this year's competition, David is honoured to be among the top 50 in this category.
October 2002 Scarlet over GreenFor the fourth year in a row, David receives two "Collector's Choice" awards during the ARTessential show (Calgary, AB).

 

This time he received the Best of Show Acrylic Painting award for his "Scarlet over Green" piece, and the Best of Show Mixed Media award for "Bald Eagle Diptych."

July 2002 In the Heat of Winter (Scrub Jay)David's "In the Heat of Winter (Scrub Jay)" is one of the winners in the 2002 Arts for the Parks "Mini 50" competition.
March 2002 Rocky Mountain EyeDavid's "Rocky Mountain Eye" is selected by the Alberta Ducks Unlimited Provincial Council as the 2003 Alberta Sponsor Print of the Year.
March 2002 FullIn his first year at the NatureWorks Wildlife Art Show & Sale in Tulsa, Oklahoma, David receives an Excellence Award for his painting "Full."
March 2002 Wildlife Art magazine features David in an article on "Global Positioning." (Wildlife Art, March/April 2002 issue)
October 2001 David is elected to membership in the prestigious Society of Animal Artists.
October 2001 A Little off the TopFor the third year in a row, David receives two "Collector's Choice" awards during the ARTessential show (Calgary, AB).

 

This time he received the "Best of Show - Acrylic Painting" award for his "Algonquin Reflection" piece, and the "Best of Show - New Reproduction" award for his new giclée "A Little off the Top."

September 2001 Brazilian Blue & GoldDavid's "Brazilian Blue & Gold" piece selected for inclusion in the prestigious Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum (Wausau, WI).

 

The piece is subsequently included in the Birds in Art national tour.

October 2000 Yawning LionessFor the second year in a row, David receives a "Collector's Choice - Best of Show Miniature Painting" award during the ARTessential show (Calgary, AB).  This time the award went to his "Yawning Lioness" piece.
June 2000 Ground Squirrel StudyU.S. Art magazine includes David's "Ground Squirrel Study" in their article "Animal Art: A to Z."  David's ground squirrels proudly posed to illustrate the letter "G." (U.S. Art, June 2000 issue)
January 2000 Wildlife Art magazine includes David in select group of "Artists to Watch in the New Millennium" (Wildlife Art, Jan/Feb 2000 issue)
October 1999 Macaw StudyDavid receives two "Collector's Choice - Best of Show" awards at the ARTessential show (Calgary, AB).

 

"Macaw Study" received the "Best of Show Miniature Painting" award, while "Lady in Waiting" received the "Best of Show New Reproduction" award.

August 1999 Early Arrival - CardinalIn his second year at the Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival (Buckhorn, ON), David is selected as the featured artist.

 

His piece, "Early Arrival - Cardinal," is used in the show's official poster and program cover.

November 1998 Full-page feature on David and his work appears in Arts Section of the Calgary Sun (Calgary, AB).
September 1998 In his first year at the Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Exposition, David wins 2nd place in the badge remarque competition.
